Policies for In-Person Worship

To maintain a safe environment:
1) Enter on Sanctuary Side of Building: Initially, only the west end (sanctuary side) of the building will be open, including the restrooms across from the office.  Door 5, by the Blessing Box, should be the only door used to enter the church.  The hallway beyond (east of) the pastors’ offices will be closed.  The Board will continually evaluate holding additional activities in the church building.
2) Open doors and windows:To provide increased circulation, the sanctuary windows and doors will be open, as the weather allows.
3) Wear a Mask: Masks are not required but are highly recommended for all those that are  not vaccinated, while in the building for worship. Please avoid bandannas and neck gaiters as they are too thin to offer adequate protection to others. This includes during times of singing.  Worship leaders may remove their masks, while they are speaking, if they feel comfortable doing so.
4) Socialize Outdoors: Please minimize socializing in the gathering area, before and after the service.  It is far safer to socialize outdoors.
5) Social Distancing in Pews: Each pew will be spaced at least 6 feet from the pew in front of it.  Family groups should sit together in a pew and maintain 6 feet of distance from other family groups.
6) Bibles and hymnals will remain in the pews.  In addition, all words will be on the screen.
7) Offerings should be placed into the dedicated box that Art Fourman has so graciously created for us. Offering plates will not be passed during the service.  The online giving option will continue to be available.
8) After the service, please exit the pews, back to front, and continue outdoors as soon as is reasonably practicable.  Ushers will direct this exiting process.  The pastoral greeting line, previously held at the back of the sanctuary, will now take place outdoors. Please continue to keep your mask on as you visit with others outside.
9) Announcements and Joys and Concerns: As has been the custom for the past year, all announcements, prayers, and concerns should continue to be sent to the pastors or the office during the week.  Last minute requests may be shared in the Zoom chat or submitted in person at the sound booth.
Other items:.
– Hand sanitizer will be provided throughout the area.
– PLEASE do not attend if you feel ill or are uncomfortable doing so.  WE WILL CONTINUE TO BROADCAST THE SERVICE ON ZOOM INDEFINITELY.

Intergenerational Worship

Our worship service features a blend of contemporary and traditional worship elements. Leadership is provided by the pastors and lay leaders.

What to expect in Worship

At Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren, worship is central to our life together. We worship in a traditional style with a few contemporary twists thrown in.

Music
Our music is an eclectic blend of hymns and contemporary music. On any given Sunday we may hear organ, piano, and guitar. We have a choir that sings every other Sunday and is open to anyone willing to bring a joyful noise. Our individual musicians and vocalists bless us with their gifts frequently.

Sharing
We are a community with a deep care for one another that is expressed during our Joys and Concerns time. This is a time for folks to share the joys they have, their concerns and sorrows, and celebrations with others in the service. Joys and Concerns are shared by filling out a small card that is read by the pastor during the time of sharing.

Children’s Story & Children’s Church
A Pastor or a lay leader leads the children in a short message about that week’s scripture on their level. It often features props and stories. Children ages 3-12 are invited to join in a lesson on their level taught by two or more lay leaders. The children participate in activities based on that week’s scripture. The nursery will be open for individual family use and for diaper changes during COVID, but there will not be a nursery attendant or nursery drop-off.

A Response Time
A brief response time follows each sermon and these take many forms. Sometimes it might be a question, it might be an action, or it might be a moment of silent reflection. It’s always a time to reflect on the message and tangible takeaways for the week ahead.

A Message
A Pastor or other congregational leaders share a weekly message grounded in scripture with the purpose of sharing images, stories, and lessons pertinent to our lives.

Creative Elements of Worship
You can expect to see a worship table decorated with images and metaphors that pertain to that week’s scripture message. Scripture is often presented in creative, engaging ways including scripture dramas, scripture litanies, and congregational involvement.

(Please email popcoboffice@gmail.com for the meeting password.) You will be able to see and hear Pastor John, as well as our lay worship leaders. If you have a webcam, we will be able to see you too (but you don't have to use this feature if you don't want to)! You will be able to ask questions or share prayer requests in the chat box.

2) Phone-Call: If you'd like to join through a phone call, you can dial this number on Sunday morning and listen in on worship: 1-929-205-6099.
